Suspected cultist, ‘Obasanjo’ killed in Lagos attack

A suspected cult member, identified simply as Obasanjo, has been killed in the Egbeda area of Lagos State amid a resurgence of cult-related violence across parts of the state.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, comes less than a week after separate attacks linked to rival cult groups were reported in Yaba and Isolo.
Sources said the victim had only recently been released from a correctional facility before he was attacked near the Lion of Judah area around Okunola bus stop in Egbeda.
He was reportedly accosted by suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity while moving within the neighbourhood.
The deceased, believed to be affiliated with the Eiye Confraternity, was said to have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack.
Earlier on Monday, another incident occurred around Yaba College of Technology, where a man identified as Elubu was shot by suspected cultists. Although initially feared dead, he reportedly survived after being rushed to hospital with gunshot injuries.
Witnesses said suspected members of a rival cult group later stormed the area in what appeared to be a reprisal move, pursuing the victim to a nearby tricycle park where he was shot at close range.
In a separate development on the same day, a suspected cultist identified as Kalou was killed near Isolo Market in the Isolo area.
The killing was believed to be a retaliatory attack following the earlier death of another individual, Adeola, allegedly linked to ongoing clashes between rival cult groups.
Confirming the Egbeda incident, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Femi Adeoye, said investigations had commenced.
He added that several suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the incident, as efforts continue to curb cult-related violence in the state.
