Abia government has knocked the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, saying his criticism of the administration of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, is because of his governorship ambition. The Delta State Police Command has intercepted a truck loaded with large quantities of suspected illicit drugs. The truck, with registration number 3BGT 18LG, driven by one Dennis Uruma, a 52-year-old man from Igalamela Local Government Area of Kogi State, was intercepted by a patrol team of the Eagle Net Special Squad, Asaba, led by Commander SP Danyaya Yunusa. Telecommunications equipment worth millions of naira has been destroyed following a fire that ravaged a mast belonging to a telecommunications company in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The agrarian community of Idogun in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State was on Friday thrown into tension following an attack on the monarch of the community, the Onidogun of Idogun, Oba Moses Bakare, by youths in the town. The Niger State Government has expressed concern over the decline in Early Initiated Breastfeeding, EIB, rates in the state from 42 percent in 2018 to 35.5 percent in 2023. The decline was revealed in a report by the National Demographic Health Survey, NDHS. The State Nutrition Officer, Hajia Asmau Abubakar commented on the report during a 5-Day Desk Review and Domestication of Social and Behaviour Change, SBC, Strategy for Nutrition in Niger State, organized by the State Ministry of Primary Health Care in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, in Minna. She emphasized the importance of breastfeeding, ideally for at least 24 months after birth while stressing the need for mothers to initiate their newborns early to breast milk – especially the colostrum which some tag as bad breast milk. “While only one out of three babies are given breast milk in the first hour after birth, only a poorly 29% are exclusively breastfed,” she said.
