EFCC arrests ‘fake’ football agent over alleged N11m scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Directorate, has arrested a suspected fake football agent, Osagie Destiny Etinosa, over an alleged N11 million fraud.

The Commission disclosed in a statement that the suspect was apprehended through open source intelligence.

According to the EFCC, Etinosa had been presenting himself on his Instagram account, @officialking _ etto., as a football agent who specialises in connecting players with foreign clubs for trials and recruitment.

In one reported case, the suspect allegedly collected the sum of N11,000,000 from one Samuel Beke Ohazuruike with a promise to secure trial opportunities for him in clubs in Romania and Bulgaria, which never came through.

“In one instant case, Etinosa allegedly collected the sum of N11,000,000 from one Samuel Beke Ohazuruike with the promise of securing trials for him in Romanian and Bulgarian clubs which never materialised,” the statement said.

Efforts by the victim to recover his money were unsuccessful.

“Efforts by the victim to recover his money proved abortive,” the statement added.

The EFCC stated that the suspect will be charged to court soon.
