Kano Govt warns quarry operators against encroachment on water facilities

Kano state government has warned sand quarry operators to avoid encroaching on bridges and water board facilities.

The warning was issued during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Union of tipper and quarry supply employers of Nigeria (UTSQEN) to the Ministry of mineral resources.

A statement signed by the ministry’s director of public enlightenment Adamu Ibrahim Dabo quoted the commissioner for mineral resources, Hamza Safiyanu as saying “It is important for operators to adhere to designated boundaries for sand quarrying along rivers within the state.”

He also urged the union to collaborate with government revenue agencies and focus on environmental protection, assuring them of the ministry’s support. “The ministry will give you complete support in fulfilling your responsibilities,” Safiyanu said.

Alhaji Isa Jafar Kofar Naisa, the newly elected chairman of UTSQEN, said the visit was meant to build a productive relationship with the ministry. “We are committed to strict compliance with environmental protection laws”. He added.
